Understanding Menopause

Menopause is the natural end of menstruation, typically occurring between ages 45-55. The years leading up to menopause (perimenopause) can begin in your early 40s and cause significant symptoms as hormone levels fluctuate.

Every woman's experience is different. Some sail through with minimal symptoms, while others experience significant disruption to their daily lives. Either way, you don't have to "just put up with it" — effective treatments are available.

Bulk Billing

Menopause consultations are bulk billed under Medicare. Some treatments and tests may have additional costs.

About Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)

HRT is the most effective treatment for menopausal symptoms. Modern HRT is safe for most women, especially when started within 10 years of menopause or before age 60.

Your GP will discuss the benefits and risks with you, taking into account your personal and family medical history to determine if HRT is suitable for you.

HRT comes in many forms: tablets, patches, gels, and vaginal treatments. We'll help you find the right type and dose for your needs.

Bone Health & Osteoporosis Prevention

Declining oestrogen levels increase your risk of osteoporosis (bone thinning). We can arrange bone density scans (DEXA) and discuss strategies to protect your bone health.

This includes calcium and vitamin D advice, weight-bearing exercise recommendations, and medication if needed.
