What is a Mental Health Care Plan?

A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) is a support plan created by your GP to help you access subsidised mental health treatment. It's designed for people experiencing mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, stress, or grief.

With an MHCP, Medicare provides rebates for psychological therapy, making professional mental health support more affordable. You can access up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year with a psychologist, clinical psychologist, or other eligible mental health professionals.

At Reliance Care, we have in-house psychologists available, so we can provide seamless care from GP consultation to therapy sessions.

You're Not Alone

1 in 5 Australians will experience a mental health condition in any year. Seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. We're here to support you.

What You Get

  • Up to 10 sessions per calendar year with Medicare rebates
  • Bulk billed GP consultation to create your plan
  • Referral to psychologist or other mental health professional
  • Review appointment after 6 sessions to assess progress

Medicare Rebate Information

Medicare provides a rebate of approximately $93-$141 per session depending on the type of provider. Some psychologists bulk bill (no out-of-pocket cost), while others may charge a gap fee.

Our in-house psychologists can discuss fees when you book your appointment.

How It Works

Getting a Mental Health Care Plan is straightforward. Here's the process:

1

Book a Long Appointment

Request a 30-40 minute appointment with your GP specifically for a Mental Health Care Plan.

2

Talk to Your GP

Your GP will discuss your mental health concerns, symptoms, and goals in a confidential setting.

3

Create Your Plan

Your GP creates a written plan outlining your treatment goals and refers you to a psychologist.

4

Start Therapy

Book with our psychologist (or one of your choice) and begin your Medicare-rebated sessions.

Important: After 6 Sessions

Medicare requires you to have a review appointment with your GP after your first 6 psychology sessions. This is to check on your progress and, if needed, approve the remaining 4 sessions. This review is also bulk billed.
